Camden Windjammer Festival 2026: Watch the Fleet Sail In, Skip the Parking Nightmare
On the Friday afternoon of Labor Day weekend, something happens in Camden Harbor that most of America has never seen. A fleet of tall-masted schooners glides into the harbor under sail, one after another, and drops anchor along the town's public landing. Locals line the seawall. Kids sit on shoulders. Somebody's grandfather explains what a topsail is to somebody's niece.
That's the Camden Windjammer Festival. It happens ten minutes down the road from Camp DeForest, and it's one of the reasons Labor Day weekend books up fast.
The Full Schedule: Fleet Arrival to Lobster Crate Race
The festival runs Friday and Saturday of Labor Day weekend. In 2026, that's September 4 and 5, at Camden Public Landing.
Saturday, September 5
7–10 AM — Camden Rotary Club pancake breakfast
8 AM — Camden Fire Department 5K Fun Run
9 AM–5 PM — Vendors, exhibitors, and Captain Kid's Corner open
10 AM — Treasure Hunt (registration at 9 AM)
11:30 AM–3 PM — West Bay Rotary Club Lobster Bake
2 PM — Lobster Crate Race (registration opens at noon)
3 PM — Windjammer open house tours
3–5 PM — Shank Painters sea shanty performance
Friday, September 4

11 AM — Lobster hauling demonstration

Camden Fills Up. Here's How to Still Get the Best Seat.
Camden fills up for this weekend. The town is beautiful, and it knows it. But if you've ever spent a Labor Day trying to park downtown at 11 AM on a Saturday, you know the trade-off.
Camp DeForest sits ten minutes north of Camden Harbor on Route 1. Watch the fleet arrive Friday afternoon, walk back to your car at your own pace, and be at your cabin ten minutes later with your feet up. The festival is close enough to drop in and out of as often as you want, and far enough away that Saturday morning coffee is quiet and peaceful.
A Sample Weekend: Friday Fleet Watch to Sunday Sleep-In
Friday. Arrive at camp early and drop off your gear. Grab a Pine Needle Spritz at the Lantern Bar, then drive into Camden by 1:30 to catch the fleet coming in. Stay for the Formal Welcome to the Fleet. Have dinner in town if you want, or head back to Happy Trails for the quieter option and catch the campfire.
Saturday. Housemade pancakes at Camp Café if you're up for it, continental breakfast if you're not. Head to Camden mid-morning for vendors and kid activities. Stay through the Lobster Bake and the Crate Race, tour a schooner at 3, and let the sea shanty band close your afternoon out. Back at camp by early evening for a fire ring wind-down.
Sunday. Sleep in. Coffee on the lawn. A walk to Howe Point Beach. Head home whenever you feel like it.
What to Know Before You Book
Camden lodging books out early for this weekend, often by mid-summer. Camp DeForest holds Labor Day availability a little later, but not much. If you're planning to come, book by early August at the latest.
Parking downtown is limited during the festival. Bike from camp along the coastal route if the weather is good, or plan to park on the outer edges of town and walk in.
